My name is Jessie, I am from Mildura, and I was lucky to find myself at Ryder-Cheshire Ivanhoe Homes in May 2020 when I was to become a first-time young mum where I gave birth to a precious baby boy, Lance.  He was 2 weeks premature and weighed 3kgs.  My husband Duane and I are overjoyed and very proud parents.

Unfortunately, in late September 2020 Duane was involved in a car accident and was flown down to Melbourne for urgent care due to spinal damage.  It has been a horrible and difficult time with Duane in hospital.  Thankfully, Lance and I were able to stay at the Homes. I found so much support from staff and other residents who are so helpful and caring. I don’t know what I would have done without them. It is a great meeting place, where we can share our stories and be supportive of one another.

The rooms are nice and comfortable.  We had our own kitchen, bathroom, and balcony.  The neighbourhood is green and convenient to supermarkets, transport, post office, chemists, banks, cafés, literally everything I needed.  The taxi drivers were helpful in looking after me, lance, his pram, groceries, and hospital trips.

I am happy to say Duane has made great progress and was discharged from hospital after our 24-night stay and we are able to head home.

Lance is now 41/2 months old and weighs 6.5kgs.  He is full of character and can be bossy.  He has won many hearts and been showered with toys and cuddles.  I would love to have another 4 babies, so it will not be the last time I stay at the Homes.

Thank you, Ryder-Cheshire Ivanhoe Homes, and residents for making a difficult time less difficult.

Love Jessie, Lance and Duane.
